Why CCTV Is so Inefficient?

According to this artice in Independent the half of cctv systems do not reduce crime.

There are more than 4 millions CCTV cameras installed, but CCTV failed in crime fighting.

Why CCTV is so Inefficient?

  • Many cameras are placed at wrong locations. Some are too height, some have too narrow or too wide angle of view so targets. CCTV installers just do not use a 3D CCTV modeling software to find optimal camera locations.

  • Resolution of many cameras is just too low.

  • You cannot find a security personnel ready to watch multiple cameras 24/7. Actually the software should take the boring part of video monitoring and attract the human attention to recognise dangerous situations only.
  • Sometimes the length of the video archive storage space is just too short. To prevent this the system designer must do CCTV storage estimation to choose a proper disk volume.

Wrongly made CCTV systems are just wasted money. Sometimes the taxpayers money.

It is called CCTV Design Tool. What I like there is a posiiblity to calculate CCTV Coverage.

This screenshots is self explaining.

For thouse who needs to design network video you can use CCTV Bandwidth and CCTV Storage calculations.

CCTV Tools - Must have tools for CCTV installer

  2. Special CCTV Lens calculator software from www.JVSG.com
  3. Coaxial cable cutter
  4. Twisted pair cable cutter and stripper
  5. Screwdriver set
